The line grew out of the work of the Avataq Cultural Institute, an Inuit cultural organization in Nunavik founded in 1980, which first documented traditional herbal knowledge with the Elders before launching the commercial line in the early 2000s. It is residents of the Nunavik communities who pick and dry the plants; processing is still overseen by Avataq. The brand has belonged to Makivvik since December 2023.
Format: box of 20 tea bags, in paper filters made of more than 99% plant fibres, with no plastic or glue.
What's inside:
Allergens: according to the manufacturer, the teas are free of nuts, peanuts, sesame, wheat, eggs, dairy, soy and sulphites.
Serving suggestion: steep one bag in a cup of hot water for a few minutes, depending on how strong you like it.
Storage: in an airtight container, dry and away from light.
Origin: plants hand-picked and hand-dried in Nunavik, in Nord-du-Québec.
