A soy wax candle with a wooden wick: as it burns slowly, the wick crackles softly and a sweet, gourmand scent spreads for hours. Sweet, slightly tart berries backed by rich, deep notes of vanilla: if childhood had a scent, this might well be it.

Flambette makes its candles entirely by hand in Quebec. Its workshop is in Trois-Rivières, in Mauricie.

Format: small (4 oz) or large (8 oz), in a frosted jar. If the maker runs out of stock, the jar may be clear instead of frosted.

Materials: 100% natural soy wax, high-quality fragrance oil free of parabens and phthalates, crackling wooden wick.

How to use: hold the candle at an angle to light it, using a long lighter, and keep the flame against the wick for a few seconds so it catches well. Then let it burn until the whole surface has melted evenly, at least 1 hour, so that it burns consistently.

Care: before each use, trim the wick to about 6 mm (1/4 in.) by breaking off the burnt part with your fingers.

Origin: handmade in Quebec by Flambette, whose workshop is in Trois-Rivières, Mauricie.

Precautions: never leave a burning candle unattended and do not burn it for more than 4 hours at a time. Place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts and out of reach of children and pets.
