Chaga has been consumed for several centuries in Eastern Europe for its medicinal properties. Its very high nutritional value has greatly popularized it in recent years. It is attributed with the ability to regulate the digestive system, control hypertension, and support the immune system among other things, but it is mainly consumed for its high antioxidant content and for its anti-tumor properties that science is beginning to recognize.
Additional Information: Chaga is a fungus that grows on birch trees and appears as a hard, wood-like growth that is black and cracked on the outside and rusty brown on the inside.
This chaga is picked responsibly when it has reached a certain size. Only part of the mushroom is removed, and special care is taken not to injure the tree during harvesting.
Directions for use: Chaga is mainly consumed as an infusion. Its pleasant taste is reminiscent of coffee.
Add 14g of chaga per liter of water. Heat gently for 3 to 4 hours. Strain and drink 1 cup per day. Keeps for several weeks in the refrigerator.
Hot Chaga: Add a cinnamon stick when the chaga heats and a splash of maple syrup or birch syrup when serving for a comforting hot drink.
Iced Chaga: Add lemon and sugar and serve over ice for a thirst-quenching chaga drink.
